Spring break is finally here, time to hit up your favorite vacation destination for a week and get your head out of the textbooks. Whether you are heading to a beach, going camping, a road trip, or just relaxing at home a week from classes is just what the doctor ordered. For me, spring break is a time to get away from all the facts and sit on the beach and read a great fictional novel. This will keep my head sharp and help bring back some imagination lost from reading about biology and management theories. Here are a few books that will help you take a break form work and give you a few laughs:
I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell: This is a hilarious book. It is an autobiography of Tucker Max and his outrageous adventures through college and law school. This book will definitely put some in great spring break mode with the ridiculous short stories he includes.
Waiter’s Rant: Ever wonder what happens inside the restaurant industry? Waiting tables myself has given me good insight on what actually goes down behind the scene. For others, this is a great biography explaining the lifestyle of servers and the ridiculous way restaurants are handled. Filled with laughs, after you finish this book you will think twice about tipping 10% ever again.
Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang: Comedian Chelsea Handler is back again. In here new book she cracks jokes about being unpopular, living with her boyfriend and arm-wrestling a maid in honor. This is outrageously funny and deliciously wicked book that will keep you laughing all week.
The Pacific: This non-fiction new release is based on the stories of four marines and a navy pilot and their intertwined odyssey in War World II. Based on the recent HBO series directed by Stephen Spielberg and tom hanks, the books goes into detail about each persons life and their battles on the beaches of Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. This is a great adventure book that will keep you turning page after page.

I’m reading Living in the Environment

I know most of you reading this are college students and you most likely don’t have much extra time for reading. And I also know that after spending days facedown in an accounting or calculus book the last thing you might want to do is read, I feel your pain. Try some fiction reading, it’s a good way to clear your mind without the numbness brought on by sitting on the couch, drooling and staring at your TV. Here are a few of my favorite fiction books released in 2009.
The Girl Who Played With Fire – Stieg Larson – This novel is the 2nd in a Swedish crime series created by Stieg Larson. Mr. Larson died before publishing the entire series but left behind the manuscripts. Until recently the books have not been available in the US. This book is a great crime thriller that is guaranteed to keep you turning pages in anticipation.
The Lost Symbol – Dan Brown – This book is a great read; Dan Brown has a skill of combining nail biting suspense with all different kinds of facts to think about. This book has been said to be the best in the series of Robert Langdon novels that people all over the world have come to enjoy
Wolf Hall – Hilary Mantel – A great novel about the history of England and King Henry VIII, the story is told through the perspective of a poor man turned advisor to the king. This book is a wonderful look into the history of England I recommend it to all of my readers.
I, Alex Cross – James Patterson – With this book being #16 in the Alex Cross series people seem to think the character is a little overused but I loved this book from beginning to end. It follows Detective Alex Cross as he attempts to uncover the identity of the Zeus serial killer. Great thriller, hard to put down.
